SR 0096 over Buffalo Run Bridge Replacement

Updating Infrastructure for a Rural Community
Harrison Township, Pennsylvania

We provided the preliminary and final design, environmental engineering, and construction support services for the replacement of the 92-foot-long, two-span bridge carrying SR 0096 over Buffalo Run and a culvert that crosses the tributary in rural Harrison Township, Bedford County. Since an appropriate detour was not available, we designed a single-lane temporary roadway/crossing to replace the bridge and half-width construction was used for the nearby culvert. Our design included over-width clearances to accommodate farming vehicles working the surrounding fields. Approximately 500 linear feet of stream channel was re-aligned to correct the over-widening and meandering of Buffalo Run through the crossing.

We provided our expertise in developing and permitting the stream realignment and stabilization measures. Our knowledge of fluvial geomorphology expedited the design/clearance process and assisted field operations when the measures were installed.
