Morris Yacht and Beach Club Rehabilitation

Creating a New Pier and Clubhouse
City Island, New York

Located at the southwest tip of City Island, New York, the Morris Yacht and Beach Club overlooks the Long Island Sound and Eastchester Bay, with more than 700 feet of waterfront supporting an active fleet of sail and powerboats. Our work on this site was divided into two separate segments. In our initial assignment, we provided design, permitting services, and construction support for the construction of a new steel pier. The pier consists of rolled steel beams, structural tubes, metal bar grating, and handrails. The pier is divided into two independent pile-supported structures, each approximately seven feet wide and 170 feet long, to provide the surface on which the boat haul crane operates.

In March 2006, a fire devastated the 150-year-old clubhouse. As part of our second contract, we were selected to serve as part of the design-build team for a new yacht club, guiding members of the club toward a facility that was within budget and met their program needs. We provided full engineering services, including structural, MEP, and site/civil engineering, for the new clubhouse, which features amenities such as a kitchen, bar, multi-purpose room, and office space.
