Kissimmee Park Road

Side-by-Side Solutions
Osceola County, Florida

The City of Saint Cloud, located just outside of Orlando, Florida, requested a new half-diamond interchange on Florida's Turnpike at the existing overpass for Kissimmee Park Road. To meet certain commitments by the City, the Turnpike agreed to an accelerated schedule for the project - leaving only 11 months for construction after the designs and right-of-way were complete.

month construction timeline

In order to meet the deadline and provide some leeway for the contractor, we designed the new overpass directly adjacent to the existing overpass. This allowed traffic the continued use of the old structure while the new one was constructed. As soon as the new overpass was complete, the interchange opened to traffic, successfully meeting the completion date. The contractor was then able to focus their efforts on removing the old overpass and complete the project. The entire project was progressed from concept to open traffic in little over three years, as opposed to the industry standard seven- to 10-year timeline.

Bowyer-Singleton & Associates, Inc., acquired by Dewberry in 2013, performed this work.
