Located prominently across from Northern Illinois University, the new DeKalb Police Headquarters is centrally located within the city to better serve the community. Following a needs assessment and update we developed for the city's police and city hall functions, we designed a two-story, 35,600-square-foot facility of brick and precast concrete. The headquarters features a 911 emergency call center, efficient evidence processing area, roll call room, modern flexible training center, five investigation interview rooms, an evidence processing lab, and secure storage areas. Contemporary design has also been incorporated into the booking and holding facility with two holding cells capable of detaining 10 people each, and a modern, naturally illuminated fitness room for the police staff.
