Big Bend Road Design-Build

Connecting Communities One Lane at a Time
Gibsonton, Florida

Big Bend Road in Gibsonton, Florida, is known for its complex interchanges, which cross in both horizontal and vertical curves. These complexities, in conjunction with the road’s prime location, often create extreme traffic delays.

As part of a design-build team with Skanska, we designed a new traffic flow where Big Bend Road meets I-75. Improvements included the widening of Big Bend Road to a six-lane roadway, new interchange ramp connections with I-75, and a new roundabout at the realigned intersection. We also replaced two bridges and added bike lanes, three new bridges, Hillsborough County municipal utilities, a pedestrian tunnel, retaining walls, stormwater management facilities, and wetland mitigation and floodplain compensation sites.
