In an effort to identify gaps in resources prior to an emergency event in the city of Fairfax, Virginia, we conducted a detailed electrical assessment of each of the city's designated shelters. Our assessment focused on generator needs and capabilities at each shelter, taking into consideration the necessity to support special needs populations, companion animal sheltering, and other standard shelter functions. We also created a plan to assist the city in retrofitting these facilities, which can be used as a reference document to secure funding for the retrofitting.
