The Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) has announced 36 members of the Class of 2020 Fellows, including Lieutenant Colonel (R) Tony Buitrago, PE, PMP, F.SAME. Buitrago is an associate vice president with Dewberry.

Throughout his more than 40-year career, Buitrago, a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) client manager in Dewberry’s resilience solutions group, has supported SAME, the U.S. Army, the engineering profession, and communities throughout the U.S. As an engineering practice leader and program management professional, he has led USACE, the Department of Defense (DoD), and private-sector organizations, managing a significant portfolio of civil works, public, and military construction projects and programs. As a military engineer, he commanded at the company level and led engineering professionals in a joint DoD command, two USACE districts, and USACE headquarters. Since his military retirement, Buitrago has continued to work in the private sector, focusing on major public works endeavors.  

“I’m honored to be named to the SAME Academy of Fellows,” says Buitrago. “I’m looking forward to continuing my service to SAME, the military, and our engineering profession through this new role.”

Buitrago earned his master’s degree in business administration from the InterAmerican University of Puerto Rico (1989) and his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Puerto Rico (1977). He is also a member of the Project Management Institute and Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society.

The SAME Academy of Fellows recognizes those members who have rendered dedicated and outstanding service to the Society, military engineering, and the architecture, engineering, and construction profession.
