The Romeoville Athletic & Event Center was recently recognized with the 2015 Outstanding Facility & Park Award from the Illinois Park & Recreation Association (IPRA). The award recognizes public agencies for exceptional and unique achievements in design and development. The building is among several designed by the consulting firm of Dewberry for the Village of Romeoville within the past few years.

The Village of Romeoville sought an athletic and event center to serve as an anchor for its downtown redevelopment plan. Dewberry transformed a vacant grayfield into the main attraction in Romeoville. The facility includes an indoor turf field for soccer, lacrosse, football, softball, and rugby teams, two hard courts for basketball, volleyball, and dance classes. In addition the facility provides multipurpose rooms, concessions, and spectator seating.

"In every sense of the word, the Romeoville Athletic & Event Center is an outstanding facility that has drawn thousands of visitors throughout the region for a variety of sporting and special events since its opening and we are very proud of this recognition," said Mayor John Noak.

"The economic redevelopment approach is opening the eyes of a community to a potential building type they may have never thought was achievable or sustainable," said Daniel Atilano, AIA. "The end results are building a healthier community, a stronger economy, and growing the once vacant area into a destination point."

In addition to the Athletic & Event Center, Dewberry has designed Romeoville's police headquarters and village hall, the new municipal center, and a library renovation.
