Back in October of 2021, I was able to mark a huge check on a career goal of mine: become an environmental scientist with Dewberry!

A Little Backstory

Prior to joining to Dewberry, I was set on going into veterinary medicine with a concentrated biology degree to match. After many years in veterinary care, I realized I’m too much of an animal softie that I carried work home with me and didn’t have a healthy separation. I applied for an open administration position closer to home that I actually didn’t know much about before applying—that company was Preble-Rish. Within a year, we were acquired by Dewberry and my journey with this company began.

My Journey with Dewberry

After we were acquired, we realized there was a big need for a local marketing professional. My business unit manager suggested that I take that role for North Florida, and I jumped right in for the challenge. I enjoyed working alongside technical experts, producing proposals that wowed our clients, and winning big contracts. But something inside of me also missed the “biology base” I had created for myself long before. When I approached my business unit manager with a plan to go back to school and work towards a career change within the company, it was responded to with surprisingly open arms.

Realizing My Goal of Becoming an Environmental Scientist

Going back to school after years removed and having to embrace an online environmental engineering and science master’s program was difficult in all senses of the word. By far the most challenging but rewarding years of my life. I’m so appreciative of all those along the way who supported me and allowed me to chase this dream: my managers at a local, regional, and national level; my former marketing team; and my new environmental team. I’ve been given so many opportunities in my time with Dewberry, and I’m so excited to see what the future holds!
