The Village of Lake in the Hills, Illinois, recently marked the completion of its new police headquarters with a ribbon cutting ceremony. Dewberry, a privately held professional services firm, provided architecture, interior design, engineering, fire protection, and technology design services for the project.
The Lake in the Hills Police Department operations have grown significantly, and the previous space, originally constructed in 1992, no longer addressed the needs of the local police force. The new facility is a 39,600-square-foot building with a campus-like architectural design and interior layout customized to the needs of the officers and staff. The design prioritizes officer wellness, operational workflow, and sustainability. Features include an exposed wood roof decking structure, clerestory lighting, soothing colors, enhanced acoustics, decompression rooms, outdoor patios, fitness areas, training rooms, and designated spaces for each division of service. To improve community connection, the site also includes public parking with visual wayfinding and pedestrian walkways.
“We are excited to celebrate the ribbon cutting alongside the Lake in the Hills community,” says Dewberry Associate Principal and Elmhurst, Illinois, Office Director Jonathan Tallman, AIA, GGP, GPCP, NCARB. “Our design compliments the existing Village Hall adjacent to the new facility, creating a civic campus space that will serve the community for years to come.”
