Dewberry, a privately held professional services firm, has announced the groundbreaking of a new police facility in Lake in the Hills, Illinois. Dewberry provided architecture; interior design; structural; mechanical, electrical, plumbing; fire protection; and technology/security design services for the facility, which is designed for optimal workflow for staff while supporting physical and mental wellness. The new facility will consolidate the Lake in the Hills Police Department (LITH PD) to one building and more than double its current square footage. It is expected to be complete in late 2025.
Design features to improve staff morale and outlook include the use of natural materials, exposed wood structures and roof decking, and clear stories to allow maximum natural light. The new facility will also include decompression rooms and a semi-private outdoor wellness area for staff.
“We are excited to support the LITH PD with a much-needed new facility,” says Dewberry Director of Sustainability and Project Manager Jenni Betancourt, AIA, WELL AP, LEED AP BD+C, GGP, NCARB. “This facility will serve the police department as it continues to grow, providing a safe and healthy environment that promotes productivity and well-being for many years to come.”
