Dewberry Vice President Peter Garvey, PE, has recently been chosen as one of four new delegates-at-large for the Water Environment Federation (WEF). WEF is a not-for-profit technical and educational organization of more than 30,000 members and 75 affiliate member associations representing water quality professionals around the world. Garvey’s selected constituency includes nearly 1,000 individuals registered to WEF’s water advocates program, acting as a conduit of information between WEF and this constituency. Garvey previously served as New England Water Environment Association’s (NEWEA) delegate to WEF.
In addition to his position as delegate-at-large, Garvey will serve as co-chair of the WEF house of delegates (HOD) water advocacy committee where he will further advocate for clean water industry initiatives, including infrastructure, funding, and the importance of clean water across communities. Additionally, he will consult with the HOD diversity, equity, and inclusion committee to promote a more diverse representation within the water advocates program.
Garvey began his role as a delegate-at-large during the 2023 Water Environment Federation Technology Exhibition and Conference (WEFTEC) and will serve a three-year term.
“As a delegate-at-large, I’m eager for the opportunity to continue advocating for the importance of clean water and the professionals who manage it,” says Garvey. “WEF is an impactful organization that has been serving this industry for many decades, and I fully support its strategic vision of a ‘life free of water challenges’.”
Garvey joined Dewberry in 2006 and has more than 30 years of experience. He is a member of Dewberry’s water market leadership team and serves as the mid-Atlantic growth officer, where he focuses on maximizing Dewberry’s services to better serve clients.
Garvey earned his bachelor’s degrees in mathematics and environmental engineering from Trinity College Dublin (1990) and a master’s in business administration and management from the University of Virginia (2002). In addition to his involvements with WEF and the NEWEA, Garvey is a member of the American Water Works Association (AWWA), Chesapeake Water Environment Association (CWEA), New England Water Works Association (NEWWA), and the Virginia Water Environment Association (VWEA).
