Dewberry, a privately held professional services firm, has announced that it has hired Ali Mahan, PE, as a vice president and regional water market segment leader. Mahan will be based in the firm’s Virginia Beach office and support the water practice across the Hampton Roads and southeast Virginia region.
With more than 40 years of experience, Mahan’s background
includes the study, design, operation, and construction of water and wastewater
facilities, as well as regulatory oversight for public facilities. Mahan has
served as program manager for many large-scale water and wastewater infrastructure
projects, including utility relocation, water storage facility design and
evaluation, treatment plant rehabilitation, and water and wastewater pumping
station evaluation, rehabilitation, and design. He has worked primarily in the
Hampton Roads region and the Virginia Peninsula under long-term contracts with
the Hampton Roads Sanitation District and the region’s municipalities.

Mahan earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering
from the Virginia Military Institute (1980). He is a member of the American Water
Works Association (AWWA) where he has held numerous leadership positions,
including Virginia national director, Virginia section chair, Virginia section
treasurer, and diversity and member inclusion committee chair. Mahan is also a
member of the Water Environment Federation and received the AWWA George Warren
Fuller Award in 2013 and the Virginia AWWA Herbert W. Evans, Jr. Distinguished
Service Award in 2016.
