Dewberry, a privately held professional services firm, is the lead designer under a project awarded to the Branscome team for the design and rehabilitation of pavement as part of a more than 163-lane-mile initiative undertaken by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).

This $14.4 million design-build project will include concrete patching, sign replacement, median barrier and guardrail adjustments, and pavement overlay installation across some of the most troubled sections of concrete pavement on Interstate I-64.

This early phase of VDOT's overall I-64 initiative includes nearly five miles of pavement restoration between the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel and Little Creek Road in Norfolk, Virginia. Construction began in April 2014, and is occurring on weeknights between 8:30 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. to avoid major impacts to daily traffic. Dewberry's construction engineering staff is providing quality assurance throughout the duration of construction.

The five-mile project is expected to be complete by November 2014, and will increase pavement life by 15 years or more.
