We provided resilience planning geographic information services for historic properties and infrastructure in coastal counties of Connecticut.

With more than 3,500 registered historic resources either in the special flood hazard or projected sea level rise areas in its four coastal counties alone, the state of Connecticut realized the importance of balancing historic preservation with coastal and other resilience initiatives. As a subcontractor to R. Christopher Goodwin & Associates, Inc., we provided resilience planning geographic information services for historic properties and infrastructure in coastal counties of Connecticut.

We assisted the state in modernizing its historic inventories into a Geographic Information System (GIS); providing data to users; conducting gap analysis of plans, policies, and regulation for 91 communities, and providing recommendations for including historical/cultural resources resilience in documents, ranging from master plans to hazard mitigation, and resilience plans and land use regulations. Additionally, one-on-one technical assistance meetings with 28 municipalities were conducted, as well as an updated flood resilience chapter in the State Historic Preservation Plan and Best Practices guide. This project provided an approach and resources that will benefit other states, counties, and communities that recognize the important of protecting valued resources from flooding and other hazards, while maintaining community character and the historical integrity of the resources in harm's way.
