On March 11, we broke ground on the I-295/I-76/Route 42 Direct Connection project, which will ultimately fix one of the largest and most congested interchanges in southern New Jersey. As the lead designer, we're responsible for all phases of construction, which is estimated to be complete in 2021.
As one of NJDOT's highest value active construction projects to date, the $900 million project includes:
- A six-lane mainline through the interchange
- Elimination of dangerous merging and weaving movements
- Upgrades to ramp geometry
- Addition of shoulders throughout the interchange
- 12 new or reconstructed bridges
- One culvert extension
- 22 retaining walls and 11 noise walls
Providing Real-Time Production Information to the Project Team
Our project team consists of more than 100 multi-discipline professionals, located across five Dewberry locations and four partner offices. More than 100,000 files totaling more than a .30 terabytes of data are currently being managed in real time across the extensive team.
An aggressive construction schedule combined with the project's criticality to the client created the need for real-time production collaboration among Dewberry offices and our partners. Due to its capabilities, maturity, and tight integration with our project's software requirements, the Bentley® ProjectWise document management system has successfully enabled a real-time collaboration environment.
ProjectWise has created a managed, auditable, single-source project data set, serving as the file storage system and active production platform where our team members can create, edit, and share their contributions. This has eliminated inefficient and risky data sharing behaviors created by email, FTP, and web folder sharing—typical of extended project teams.
ProjectWise's delta file technology has enhanced usability, and CAD workspace management tools have simplified standards distribution. Changes made by one discipline of Dewberry's project team are immediately available to any team member within and beyond Dewberry's borders.
Overall, the single-source project data set has lowered risk, created production and management confidence in the team, and has facilitated on-time delivery of the product—crucial to meeting our client's expectations.
