Dewberry, a privately held professional services firm, has announced the groundbreaking of a new wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) at the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center (MCAGCC) in Twentynine Palms, California. As part of the A&R Pacific-Garney Federal JV team, Dewberry is the lead designer for the design-build project for the Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command Southwest (NAVFAC SW); and is delivering engineering services during construction. Its completion is expected in 2027.
MCAGCC is the largest air/ground combat center for the U.S. Marine Corps, occupying approximately 1,100 square miles of the Southern Mojave Desert. The existing WWTP operates on a lagoon system where the effluent is used for irrigation water at the Desert Winds Combat Center Golf Course. The new plant will decommission the existing 0.75 million gallon per day (MGD) average daily flow wastewater treatment process without disruption to exiting plant operations; and will replace it with a new 2 MGD system that produces California Code of Regulations Title 22-compliant disinfected tertiary recycled water.
Key project features include new facilities for: preliminary treatment and pumping, activated sludge secondary treatment, tertiary treatment, solids management, odor control facilities, and other ancillary support systems.
