The projects that received honor awards include:

  • The Manasquan Area Channels Maintenance Dredging project was honored in the water resources category. The project, which was led by New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT), with Dewberry serving as design lead, involved dredging 88,000 cubic yards of material from eight channels in Monmouth County, New Jersey, to provide safe, unobstructed passage for commercial and recreational vessels. Beach-quality sand was placed on Manasquan’s Dog Beach, expanding the beach to ten times its former size. Fine-grained dredge material was dewatered locally before being transported to the Monmouth County Reclamation Center for use as landfill cover before the start of the following summer season.
  • The Somerville Station Transit-Oriented Development was awarded in the special projects category. This project represents the culmination of a decade-long effort led by master developer Inspired by Somerset Development, in collaboration with AvalonBay Communities, PulteGroup, the Borough of Somerville, NJ TRANSIT, and the design team (including Dewberry as site engineer). This project redeveloped NJ TRANSIT’s 31-acre parking lot and underutilized land into a community with 374 apartments, 156 townhomes, parking garages, retail and community spaces, and a new road connecting to a state highway. The project’s innovative stormwater management strategy works with nature, by directing stormwater into an adjacent “green seam,” where it helps to sustain wetlands and habitat.
  • The Newton Avenue Bus Garage Electric Bus Charging System Infrastructure project, led by NJ TRANSIT, was recognized in the special projects category. This project involved planning, designing, and building the first-of-its-kind electric bus infrastructure project for NJ TRANSIT, with a focus on establishing a model for electrifying a fleet of more than 2,000 buses. Eight ground-mounted 150 kW charging cabinets and 10 ceiling-hung dispensers, an inside 13.2 kV electrical substation, and a state-of-the-art wireless identification and communication system were constructed at the garage. This electric bus infrastructure project is the initial step in NJ TRANSIT’s Zero-Emissions Bus Program which aligns with the State of New Jersey’s Energy Master Plan to achieve 100% clean energy.

The Newark Liberty International Airport Terminal A Design of Three Bridges, led by Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, received a distinguished award in the structural systems category. As an essential element of the New Terminal A Redevelopment Program, this project included the design and construction of three new elevated roadway bridge structures and related approach roadways, overhead sign support structures, wayfinding systems, retaining walls, ancillary parking lots, area and roadway lighting and utilities, and major electrical and electronic infrastructure including an electric bus charging area.
