Dewberry, a privately held professional services firm, has announced that Yovanni Cataño, Ph.D., PE, ENV SP, has joined the firm’s Boston, Massachusetts, office as a senior project engineer specializing in hydraulic modeling for the water/wastewater group.
Cataño
brings more than 20 years of experience in water resources engineering and has
expertise in advanced groundwater, computational fluid dynamics (CFD), sediment
transport, and wastewater and stormwater collection systems modeling. His CFD
expertise includes modeling complex air flow patterns within a space, including
medical rooms, to make sure the space and heating, ventilation, and air
conditioning system is designed for air flow to minimize and manage the spread
of infection. Cataño has
extensive experience in hydraulic evaluations, and in the construction,
calibration, and validation of numerous hydrodynamic, hydrologic, and hydraulic
models. In his role with Dewberry, he is working on collection systems and
advanced hydraulics projects regionally and nationally.
“We are excited to welcome Yovanni to Dewberry,” says
Dewberry Senior Associate David Bedoya, Ph.D., PE, ENV SP. “He brings a wealth
of modeling and computational fluid dynamics expertise to the firm and will use
this knowledge to assist our clients in making informed and smart decisions
with their infrastructure challenges.”
Cataño
has published more than 23 peer-reviewed manuscripts in scientific and
professional journals. He also serves as a peer reviewer for ten journals,
including the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Journal of
Hydraulic Engineering, ASCE’s Journal of Hydrologic Engineering, and
ASCE’s Journal of Irrigation and Drainage Engineering; Urban Water; and
Ocean Engineering. Cataño also
serves as chair of ASCE’s CFD applications in water, wastewater, and stormwater
applications committee. He holds a doctorate degree in civil and environmental
engineering (2005), a master’s (2000) in water resources engineering, and a
bachelor’s in civil engineering from National University of Colombia (1997).
He’s a member of ASCE, the Association of State Floodplain Managers, and the Water
Environment Federation.
