Dewberry, a privately held professional services firm, has announced that Alfonso Lopez, PE, has been hired as a business development director for the water/wastewater construction services group in the New York/New Jersey metropolitan area.

Lopez has more than 40 years of experience, including nearly 25 years in senior management in both municipal public works and consultant sectors, working with public entities.

He managed various water/wastewater construction management projects for the New York City Department of Environmental Protection (NYCDEP) and DC Water. Lopez served as the Deputy Commissioner of NYCDEP, where he was responsible for the water and wastewater capital programs and the operations and maintenance of NYC’s wastewater treatment system.

Lopez graduated from New York University with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering (1973) and is a professional engineer in New York. He is a member of the Water Environment Federation (WEF) and New York Water Environment Association (NYWEA).
