Dewberry announced that Robert Acker, PE, ENV SP, joined the firm as a senior engineer in the New York City office.

Acker has nearly 10 years of experience in coastal engineering and resilience. He has worked along the Atlantic waterfront from Boston to the Florida Keys, as well as the Gulf of Mexico and the Pacific waterfront in California, Alaska, Hawaii, and the U.S. territory of Guam. Acker has worked in multiple facets of the industry, including dynamic wave loading (linear and non-linear) on structures, sediment transport theory and modeling, and with numerical model developers.

In his role as a senior coastal engineer, Acker will serve as a technical lead on coastal engineering and resilience projects, while assisting clients with shoreline design, review, repair, and resilience.

Acker holds a master's degree (2009) and a bachelor's degree (2007) in ocean engineering from Texas A&M University. He is a professional engineer in New York and an Envision sustainability professional. Acker is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Coasts, Oceans, Ports, and Rivers Institute (COPRI), Marine Technology Society (MTS), and serves as the vice president of MTS's board on maritime law. He also holds certifications and completed advanced training for underwater structural/bridge inspection.
