Two Dewberry projects were selected to be published in the American Institute of Architects Academy of Architecture for Justice publication -- Justice Facilities Review. The Frederick County Work Release Center in Frederick, Maryland, and the Western Area Regional Public Safety Facility in Glendale, Arizona, were selected for this annual publication which showcases the year's outstanding justice facilities design.

Frederick County Work Release Center in Frederick, MD

Dewberry designed a new work release community corrections center as part of a larger Frederick County Detention Center expansion and renovation program. The new stand-alone facility, houses 112 male and 15 female non-violent habitual substance abusers who have qualified for the Sheriff's Office Corrections program, which focuses on reintegration into the community. The center supports a co-educational community in a dormitory-style setting, with classrooms, treatment/counseling spaces, a cafeteria and a centrally located dayroom. Resources include a branch of the county's public library system, as well as computers and other educational tools.

With the completion of the new center, Dewberry has begun work on a follow-on project, converting the former 15,000-SF work release unit into additional administrative offices; a lock room and muster room for the Frederick County Sheriff Department's staff; and lease space for the Maryland District court.

Western Area Regional Public Safety Facility in Glendale, AZ

This 32,000-SF facility consists of a new combination police and fire facility located on seven acres of an 88-acre master planned multi-purpose site. The Dewberry Technology Studio developed a security electronics system that includes access control, intrusion detection and a closed circuit television system. Additional design responsibility included an ANSI/EIA/TIA 568-B structured cabling system. The facility is planned for future expansion to meet projected space through 2013. It also houses four apparatus bays and living quarters for 12 fire department personnel.
