Dewberry has announced that the Garden State Parkway (GSP) Interchange 163 improvements project received the 2019 Distinguished Engineering Award from the New Jersey Alliance for Action.
Improvements included relocating the existing
left-side exits to more conventional right-side exits in order to help reduce vehicular
traffic queues from occurring in the high-speed left lanes. The $67-million
improvements, completed in 2018, have helped to alleviate operational and
safety issues along the ramps, as well as both the northbound and southbound
GSP mainline roadways.
Dewberry provided environmental studies; bridge
assessments; signage design; maintenance and protection of traffic; highway,
structural, geotechnical, and utility engineering; permitting; and stormwater
management.
The project also received a National Recognition
Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) and the New
Jersey section 2019 Project of the Year <$100 Million award from the
American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) earlier this year.
