Two projects designed by Dewberry, a privately held professional services firm, were recently recognized by the American Library Association / International Interior Design Association (ALA/IIDA), as 2014 Library Interior Design Award winners.
Dewberry's design of the Midland Centennial Library won the 2014 Library Interior Design Award for a Public Library over 30,000 square feet, while the firm's design of the Schaumburg Township Main Library's Teen Quad received an honorable mention for Single Space Design. Award winners in this international biennial competition demonstrate excellence in aesthetics, design, creativity, function, and client satisfaction.
The Midland Centennial Library was the product of a converted former Linens-N-Things retail store. The 33,000-square-foot library was designed to include green screens, touch-screen displays, video projection capabilities, and a media lab.
The Schaumburg Township Main Library wanted to provide their teen population with a technologically advanced, state-of-the-art area with built-in flexibility. Through a series of brainstorming sessions with teen focus groups, Dewberry created a 6,370-square-foot teen quad where visitors could relax, study, and socialize. The interior renovation included a video production room, study area, discussion rooms, and a vending area.
Dewberry's work with the Schaumburg Township Main Library was also recently recognized with an ALA Merit Award and a Merit Award for Interior Architecture from the Northeast Illinois chapter of the American Institute of Architects.
