State Route 0611 Final Design

Reducing Costs Through Smart Transportation Principles
Pocono Township, Pennsylvania

We designed the $12.3-million roadway reconstruction of State Route 611 from Scotrun to Swiftwater in the heavily touristed area of Pocono Township, Pennsylvania. In order to make the project economically viable, we undertook a right-sizing study utilizing smart transportation principles to reduce the proposed five-lane section to a less costly, three-lane alternative. The project improves safety throughout the corridor by providing designated left-turn lanes at major access points, controlling access to adjacent properties, and providing realignment of intersections. Our design included a traffic signal at the Brookdale Road intersection and 2.6 miles of roadway reconstruction, a superstructure replacement, two culvert rehabilitations, drainage upgrades, significant utility relocations, and five acres of riparian buffer mitigation.
