Route 7/River Creek Parkway Interchange

Connecting the Community

The project included re-alignment and grade separation of River Creek Parkway from its previous at-grade connection with Route 7, the extension of River Creek Parkway south of Route 7, and re-alignment of several connecting roadways.

We designed a modified spread diamond configuration for the interchange to maximize the development area and facilitate the possible addition of flyover ramps, which could support a future crossing of the Potomac River by River Creek Parkway.

We coordinated multiple parties—neighboring home owners associations, the Board of Architectural Review, and the Leesburg Board of Supervisors—to incorporate design refinements and enhancements throughout plan development.

As a key component of an overall development plan in Leesburg, Virginia, we provided design and construction services for the Route 7 and River Creek Parkway Interchange. Privately funded, the interchange provides primary access to the Village at Leesburg, a mixed-use urban community with housing, national retail chains, and restaurants.

Selected from a series of conceptual design studies which compared access alternatives, we factored in the following criteria:

traffic and various interchange configurations with respect to the client's needs and VDOT approval
features to enhance adjacent communities
impacts to adjacent historic and natural resources
stormwater management
significant utility conflicts and relocation
architectural features
