The renovation of the Metropolitan Courthouse required a design solution that met the courts; programmatic goals, security needs, and modern life-safety code requirements while also preserving and restoring the historic Art Deco building. Two new vertical cores within the 270,400-square-foot building provide secure judicial access and meet code requirements. A new underground parking deck, zoned for public and separate judiciary/court staff parking with secure access to the building, is covered with a green roof and an appealing entry plaza.
