Garden State Parkway Shoulder Restoration and Improvements MP 83 to 100 Program Manager Services

Improving Safety and Traffic Flow along the Garden State Parkway
Ocean and Monmouth Counties, New Jersey

As part of an effort to improve safety and traffic flow conditions, the New Jersey Turnpike Authority (NJTA) decided to widen 17 miles of highway, including 31 bridges (two new, 20 replacements, and nine superstructure elements) in Ocean and Monmouth Counties, New Jersey. We delivered program management services to the NJTA, overseeing a $330 million project which involved four design engineers, and four contractors, and required coordination with two nearby Ocean County interchange projects.

We established an effective management process for design reviews, revisions, and quality control that enabled the project to gain necessary regulatory approvals and meet schedule milestones. This was made possible because of our deep client knowledge including their policies and procedures, governing regulations and regulatory agencies, and engineer and contractor practices. Our established program also accommodated challenges including a necessary redesign due to Hurricane Irene flooding and design engineer contracts that were not aligned with the construction contracts.
