SMART

Managing the resources of a complex project is always critical to the success of the effort. Being more efficient in how we deploy resources, anticipate and avoid hazards, and reduce client costs are necessary actions. Dewberry’s Survey Management and Reporting Tool (SMART) is very effective in accomplishing these goals.

A web-based, geospatial information system, SMART is used for end-to-end managing and reporting of project activity to improve safety and product delivery.

Because the tool is customizable to every project, the SMART environment gives project management personnel the analytical tools needed to produce client schedules and reports based on real-time data. The tool avoids redundancy by integrating with client and other team member project databases as well as public information sources. Good communication across the entire project team makes all the difference. We’ve developed this tool to effectively provide communications to all team members.

The real-time data enables flexible, proactive decision-making, while lessons-learned are implemented more quickly using tracked progress, measured results, and integrated project data. The tool also supports redundancy checks by integrating with client and other team member project databases as well as public information sources.

SMART also delivers safety and security notifications via an internal team emergency alert broadcast system, as well as precise display of local emergency facilities, such as hospitals, law enforcement, and ranger stations. Other real-time user and management options include field personnel location, weather radar and fire warnings, and scheduling and tracking of day-to-day field and office operations.

Real-time actions help surveyors in the field integrate with client safety and security structure and protocols by delivering project maps and pertinent project data, such as project alignments and assets; project control locations and data sheets; survey field notes; record plats and exhibits; and right-of-way and easement documents.

By using SMART, all information and deliverables can be found in one place, can be accessed by all team members, safety is improved, and costs are reduced. For more on the SMART tool, contact Dan Williams.
