The intersection, located just outside Fort Myers, is the first of its kind in the state of Florida. The intersection was an integral part of the Florida Department of Transportation’s (FDOT) five-mile, six-lane capacity improvement project in Lee County. Dewberry was engineer of record and provided design and management services on the project. The continuous flow intersection provides a comparable level of service to a grade-separated, single-point urban interchange, but at a lower cost.

“We are honored that this project was named as a winner among such innovative and groundbreaking projects across the country,” says Dewberry Vice President Kevin Knudsen, PE. “Safety is of the highest importance to FDOT, and we’re proud to have provided a design that not only improves traffic operations, but more importantly, relieves congestion and improves safety.”

The intersection opened to the public following a ribbon-cutting ceremony in July 2019. To learn more about how the intersection works, watch this video
