Dewberry has announced that Thomas Christensen, PE, PMP, has been promoted to associate vice president in the firm's Fairfax, Virginia, office.

Christensen is Dewberry's director of federal program management, with nearly five decades of experience in construction, program management, and profitable operation of utilities systems, as well as engineering for research, commercial, industrial, and residential facilities. Christensen is an expert in project management, contract administration, and environmental engineering. Notable projects include the HDR/Dewberry joint venture to design the Fort Belvoir Community Hospital, a 1.27 million-square-foot facility that was completed in under five years to meet BRAC deadlines using the integrated design-bid-build process.

Christensen obtained his bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the University of California (1970), two master's degrees, in material science and ocean engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (1976), a master's in business administration from California Lutheran University (1985), and a master's degree in acquisition and logistics from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces (1992).

Christensen is a licensed professional engineer in California, the District of Columbia, Maryland, Mississippi, New Mexico, North Carolina, Texas, and Virginia; and is a certified project management professional. He is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and Project Management Institute, and is currently the president of the Northern Virginia Post of the Society of American Military Engineers.
