Dewberry Announces the Promotion of Mathini Sreetharan, PhD, PE

Senior water resources engineer promoted to associate.

Dewberry is proud to announce the promotion of Mathini Sreetharan, Ph.D., PE, to associate. Based in the firm's Fairfax, Virginia, office, Sreetharan is a senior water resources engineer with more than 36 years of experience and works on flood hazard analysis, resilience, and hazard mitigation projects.

Sreetharan is responsible for the technical review of hydraulic and hydrologic engineering studies, liaising with communities involved in floodplain studies, and the provision of floodplain and floodway submittals. She is also responsible for providing modeling studies of floodplains and floodways utilizing various watershed modeling programs. Sreetharan is responsible for reviewing new hydrologic and hydraulic computer models for technical accuracy and compliance with Federal Emergency Management Agency requirements.

Recently, she has been involved in various projects, including FEMA's Cooperating Technical Partners program with the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development for flood hazard analysis, and the sea level rise and flood analysis for the City of Virginia Beach.

Sreetharan earned her doctorate in civil engineering from the Hydraulics Research Station in Wallingford, United Kingdom (1983) and her bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the University of Sri Lanka (1976). In addition to her role at Dewberry, Sreetharan is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, American Water Resources Association, Association of State Dam Safety Officials, and the Virginia Floodplain Management Association.
