Dewberry announced that Timothy Shea, PE, has joined the Fairfax, Virginia, office as a market segment leader for water/wastewater services.

Shea has more than 45 years of experience in water/wastewater management and environmental engineering in the U.S. and internationally. He is an expert in the beneficial reuse of biosolids from wastewater treatment, including anaerobic digestion and co-digestion of sewage solids and high-strength organic wastes. Shea has developed strategies for the management of residuals from water and wastewater treatment plant operations and is familiar with the regulations and various technology options.

Prior to joining Dewberry, he developed biosolids management strategies for 26 wastewater treatment plants for the Sydney Water Company in Australia, and worked on anaerobic digestion projects at municipal wastewater treatment plans in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates; Atotonilco in Mexico City, Mexico, and Sao Paolo, Brazil. Currently, Shea is supporting the start-up of an anaerobic digester for the City of Baltimore at the Back River Wastewater Treatment Plant in Maryland. He has authored or contributed to more than 60 technical reports and publications on waste management, biosolids, and anaerobic digestion.

Shea holds a doctorate and master's degree in sanitary engineering from the University of California at Berkeley, and a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Loyola University. He is a professional engineer in Virginia, and a member of the American Academy of Environmental Engineers, American Water Works Association, Water Environment Federation, and the International Water Association.
