Dewberry has announced the promotions of Shahidul Joarder, PE, to senior associate, and Nicholas Saponara, PE, to associate in the firm's New York, New York, office.

Shahidul Joarder is a department manager for the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) group and has more than 35 years of experience as an electrical design engineer. He has extensive expertise in many systems, including electrical light and power, fire alarm, public address, clock, telephone, intercom, master antenna cable television, and intrusion detection alarm. Additionally, he has experience in access control systems for subways; tunnels, bridges, highways, toll plazas; and commercial, industrial, and institutional facilities. His experience also includes permitting for various New York City projects.

After earning his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, Joarder went on to earn his master's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Texas at El Paso. He is a professional engineer in Connecticut, Florida, Massachusetts, Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and New Jersey, and is a member of the National Fire Protection Association, the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying, and the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers.

With more than 25 years of experience, Nicholas Saponara is currently serving as the assistant department manager for the MEP group in New York. He is responsible for overseeing design and manpower scheduling of the MEP team, estimating and field supervision of MEP personnel, proposal preparation, pricing and scheduling, and coordinating client and contractor contacts. He is experienced in organizing and creating mechanical engineering drafting and details standards, creating comprehensive equipment schedules to aid in department efficiency, and providing quality control for all types of projects. His project experience includes office, education, retail, and commercial buildings for both public and private entities, and utilizing the design-build delivery system for federal projects.

Saponara earned his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and his master's degree in business administration from the New York Institute of Technology. He is a professional engineer in New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, Pennsylvania, District of Columbia, and New Jersey. He is a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers, the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air Conditioning Engineers, the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying, and the American Society of Plumbing Engineers.
