Dewberry, a privately held professional services firm, has hired Jack Kanarek, as a senior project manager in the Bloomfield, New Jersey, office. In his new role, he will be responsible for enhancing Dewberry's rail transit capabilities in the Northeast.

Kanarek brings more than 40 years of public transportation industry experience to Dewberry, including work on rail station improvements, modernization, and implementing ADA accessibility. He previously served as senior director of project development for NJ Transit, where he was heavily involved in planning and developing improvement and expansion projects for New Jersey's extensive bus and rail system. Kanarek's portfolio includes directing projects for major transit passenger hubs, including Newark Penn Station, Hoboken Terminal, and Hamilton Station. He led the rail system planning that resulted in the implementation of Midtown Direct service and the Frank R. Lautenberg Secaucus Junction Station; which significantly improved access to Midtown Manhattan for New Jersey residents.

Kanarek holds bachelor's and master's degrees in civil engineering from the University at Buffalo and the University of Pennsylvania, respectively. He currently serves as the president of the board of trustees on the Greater Mercer Transportation Association. He is also a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and serves on the American Public Transportation Association Sustainability and Urban Design Standards Committee.
