John F. Henz, senior meteorologist at Dewberry, has been elected as a fellow of the American Meteorological Society (AMS) for his contributions to hydro-meteorology, operational meteorology, and applied climatology.

"I am humbled and honored by this recognition from my peers during a decade of increasing awareness of the importance of extreme weather and climate to society," Henz says. "I continue to be deeply motivated to use the abundant data sets and emerging computer resources that contribute to our understanding of climate, water supplies, and extreme weather to the benefit of all."

Henz joined Dewberry in 2010. His work includes leading a flash flood prediction project for the Flood Control District of Maricopa County, Arizona; developing a flash flood threat bulletin for the Colorado Water Conservation Board; and developing a flash flood response plan for the towns of West Creek and Deckers, Colorado.

Henz holds a master's degree in atmospheric science from Colorado State University and a bachelor's degree in meteorology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He previously served as a member of AMS' Severe Local Storms Committee, Board of Economic Enterprise Development, and Board of Certified Consulting Meteorologists where he served as chairman in 2011. In 1977, Henz and Vince Sheetz were recognized with an AMS award for use of meteorological knowledge and utilizing radio for public outreach during the July 31 and August 1, 1976 flash flood events.
