Virtua's new hospital in Voorhees, New Jersey, reflects an emphasis on sustainability, including advanced measures for stormwater management. The 125-acre site was engineered by Dewberry.

The project includes ten infiltration basins, 40 acres of wetlands, vegetated swales, and numerous rain gardens to manage peak run-off, treat stormwater, and promote groundwater infiltration.

Dewberry also designed the widening of State Highway Route 73 along with the modification and addition of new signalized intersections. The improvements enhance access and traffic management along the front of the hospital property.

The project also included the construction of a new 2,500-GPM regional sanitary sewer pumping station, force main, and gravity interceptors to provide sanitary sewer to the site. The pump station is a benefit to the community as well, as approximately one-third of the township will also be served by the new infrastructure. The township's existing pump station was at capacity.

Dewberry has completed site/civil engineering services for several hospital projects in New Jersey. Currently, the firm is providing preliminary and final site planning for the installation of a new, 2.1-MW-dc solar system for the Saint Peter's Healthcare System in New Brunswick. The project will be the largest solar system built by a New Jersey hospital to date.
