George Jacobs, PE, Elected President of the American Council of Engineering Companies, Connecticut Chapter

New Haven, CT—August 21, 2009
Dewberry, a nationally recognized infrastructure engineering firm, recently announced George Jacobs’ election as president of the Connecticut chapter of the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC/CT) beginning July 1, 2009.
Located in Dewberry’s New Haven office, Jacobs has been a member of ACEC since 2001. He has held positions of vice president, chair of the program committee, treasurer, and a director on the board. Since joining the organization, Jacobs has taken a proactive role in the Connecticut Department of Transportation’s (ConnDOT) Work Zone Safety Committee, working towards improving the safety awareness of Connecticut’s traveling public. As programming chair, Jacobs worked to bring interesting and topical programs to venues around the state. Additionally, he has worked with the ConnDOT liaison group on developing new scoping and negotiations procedures for consultants.
As president, Jacobs looks forward to supporting ACEC on a national level, as well as expanding chapter membership. He also will continue to support and participate in a number of committees including government affairs, ConnDOT liaison, Department of Public Works liaison, and programming.
With more than 28 years of engineering and management experience, Jacobs’ strengths include design, development, and management of complex transportation projects using project delivery methods including design-bid-build, design-build, and public-private-partnerships. Jacobs’ experience as project manager is varied; local projects include the Buckland Area Transportation Study, the I-84 Waterbury to Southington Needs Deficiency Study, the I-95 New Haven Harbor Improvement Program (Q-Bridge Crossing), the I-95 Branford Extension, the design of surface parking lots and roadway realignments for Eastern and Southern Connecticut State University’s, and ConnDOT's bi-annual underwater bridge inspection program.
