Case Study: A Therapeutic Environment
The 200-bed Oklahoma Forensic Center is one of the most unique facilities of its kind in the country. Designed to replace a 90-year-old psychiatric facility, the building provides a therapeutic atmosphere within a highly secure institutional facility housing individuals deemed incompetent to stand trial or judged not guilty by reason of insanity. The 100,000-SF facility has eight 25-bed housing units organized around four back-to-back nursing/staff stations. The center is a national model for efficiency, using 20+ percent fewer gross square feet per patient than the average facility.
